Aruba is certainly not new to the travel scene—hence its nickname, “One Happy Island.” Part of the ABC Islands, Aruba is known for its year-round beautiful weather and its location outside the main hurricane belt. That reliability makes it an especially appealing destination. Of course, its popularity is a double-edged sword. The island has become increasingly developed and built up, which some travelers love for the abundance of accommodations, restaurants, and amenities, while others find it a bit too crowded.
I first visited Aruba 10 years ago and stayed at the Hyatt on Palm Beach, surrounded by the island’s famous high-rise hotels. I enjoyed myself tremendously—the beach was beautiful, everything I needed was within walking distance, and the area was convenient and lively. Yes, it was crowded, but certainly not enough to deter me from returning. Over the years, we simply chose to explore new destinations, but eventually decided it was time to go back.
This time, I discovered Bucuti & Tara, an adults-only hotel located on Eagle Beach, in the island’s quieter, low-rise hotel area. To say it was amazing would be an understatement.
Bucuti & Tara is not an all-inclusive resort, as most hotels in Aruba are not. However, it offers everything you could want for a relaxing getaway: two restaurants on-site, beach loungers and service, a beach bar, a spacious stretch of Eagle Beach, a pool, a fitness facility, and group fitness classes throughout the day. Most importantly, there is peace and quiet.
I specifically mention the peace and quiet because Bucuti & Tara really emphasizes what it isn’t just as much as what it is. This is not an adults-only resort designed around a loud, lively party atmosphere. Instead, it’s a place where adults can truly slow down, relax, and enjoy the surroundings.
And then there’s the staff. They were quite possibly some of the best I’ve encountered across the board—from the front desk and concierge to the breakfast and restaurant teams and the hardworking beach-service staff. Everyone was welcoming, attentive, and genuinely made the experience feel special.
The contrast between Bucuti & Tara and the high-rise area was striking. When we ventured into town for dinner, it almost felt like we were visiting two different islands. Bucuti & Tara was peaceful and serene, while other parts of Aruba were lively, bustling, and full of activity.
I would happily stay in either area of the island again, but it really comes down to what you’re looking for in your vacation. For us, Bucuti & Tara was perfection: relaxing, beautiful, peaceful, and incredibly easy. It would also make an ideal honeymoon destination for couples looking for a romantic escape without the noise and crowds.
