Delicious homemade pasta…check, perfectly prepared seafood…check, limoncello desserts…check and of course delectable gelato…CHECK! Positano continues to impress me only adding to my positive opinions of having the best food of my life in Italy! Never once have I been disappointed, and the food alone will keep me coming back. This blog post shares the places I enjoyed eating at during my trip to Positano.
Buca di Bacco is conveniently situated at the base of the hill, overlooking the main beach of Positano. It is a great place to enjoy a meal for those staying in town or just visiting for the day by ferry. The restaurant is located next to its Hotel Buca di Bacco and offers indoor and outdoor terrace dining with breathtaking views! I dined on the terrace twice during my visit and thoroughly enjoyed the homemade spaghetti and meatballs with a Bolognese sauce.
Ristorante Don Giovanni is located towards the top of the hill where you are rewarded with spectacular views looking back towards the village and main beach. I dined on the patio, beneath a pergola covered with beautiful vines and flowers. I thought the ambiance was peaceful and charming as the restaurant was situated a level above the main road. Other dining options are available directly on the road in order to provide views, however, people are constantly walking by which I found unappealing. Therefore, I was very impressed with Ristorante Don Giovanni being able to provide the best of both worlds, views and seclusion. The service and food were top-notch, I had fresh tomato with buffalo ricotta and garlic bread as a starter and ravioli with eggplant and provolone cheese for my main.
Ristorante Max was one of the most unique dining environments while in Positano. Located in the heart of the Positano village, this unusual restaurant is also an art gallery, therefore you are dining amongst works of art while indoors. I visited in September and wanted to take full advantage of the perfect weather, thus I dined in the garden. The garden is emersed in fragrant and lush greenery, with subtle lighting and music. I felt this was a very romantic evening and was very pleased with the calamari and gnocchi.
Da Vincenzo is an absolute must dine! This restaurant came highly recommended as it has been operating for three generations. Located towards the top of the village, this amazing restaurant not only will leave you in awe of its dishes but for those dining outdoors…the views! I dined indoors but absolutely loved the ambiance as I sat in what felt like a cozy stone cave. While many of the restaurants including Da Vincenzo specialize in seafood dishes, I was eager to try the rigatoni pasta with braised beef (recommended by the server). This was a completely different twist on any pasta dish I would normally order, and it was phenomenal!! The restaurant is also known for its mouthwatering sweets…so why not try the staple tiramisu.
Lo Guarracino is a great casual, affordable option for both lunch and dinner. The restaurant is located on the cliffside walkway when leaving the main beach of Positano heading towards Fornillo beach (Via Positanesi d’America). Indoor and outdoor dining options are available, offering views of the Amalfi Coast and Fornillo beach. The pictures online before dining initially made me a little nervous as things seemed dark and dated, however, upon arriving I thought it was a quaint, casual, well-kept establishment…not to mention the food was really good. I had the pepperoni pizza which was perfectly soft yet crispy and the homemade tagliolini pasta with lemon and shrimp.
The Brasserie is a cute and casual seaside option located next to the ferry dock and main beach of Positano. I stopped in to enjoy a late lunch and thought it was bright and enchanting. I devoured my pizza and can’t argue with those stating it is the best pizza in Positano. After finishing lunch, I had to order the lemon sorbet served in an actual lemon to take with me! It was yummy, refreshing and you will definitely see everyone walking around town eating these.
Gelateria Buca di Bacco is located downstairs from the main restaurant of Buca di Bacco and open during the day and evening. Perhaps I was influenced to try the gelato as it was conveniently located next to the hotel (where I stayed) …but it was so great I came back EVERYDAY! I think about the gelato to this day as the tiramisu flavor includes large chunks of actual tiramisu…amazing!!!
